Interior Designer
This Assisted Living Building was designed to redefine supportive living by creating an environment that treats aging as a continuation of a full and meaningful life rather than a transition into institutional care. Serving older adults who value comfort, independence, hospitality, and personal dignity, the project establishes a new benchmark for assisted living by blending luxury residential design, wellness-focused planning, and advanced care technology.
The primary opportunity was to challenge conventional expectations of assisted living. The design team worked closely with ownership and senior leadership to understand the emotional and practical concerns residents face when transitioning from independent living. The resulting design emphasizes a strong sense of home, personal pride, and social connection while discreetly incorporating the safety and support systems necessary for long-term care.
Key project objectives included:
• Creating a hospitality-driven environment that feels warm, intimate, and residential rather than clinical.
• Supporting resident wellbeing through natural light, social engagement, comfort, and access to nature.
• Integrating advanced wellness technology without compromising aesthetics.
• Providing flexibility to accommodate changing resident needs over time.
• Supporting both independence and staff effectiveness through thoughtful planning and visibility.
The design utilizes a restrained palette of white oak, creamy veined stone, richly textured furnishings, and soft natural tones accented by colors inspired by water and the surrounding landscape. Architectural features, decorative lighting, artwork, and ceiling treatments define spaces in place of traditional walls, creating openness while improving visibility and supervision.
Several unique amenities distinguish the project. A dramatic theater transforms from a cinematic venue into a performance and event space. Multiple dining venues offer residents a variety of social and culinary experiences. The signature Solarium features floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides overlooking botanical gardens and functions as an exclusive social club environment with hospitality service, entertainment areas, and flexible gathering spaces for cards, meetings, dining, reading, and celebrations.
Innovation is expressed through the integration of Smart Care technology, including wearable wellness devices, voice-enabled resident assistance, smart room controls, and fall-detection systems that quietly support resident safety while preserving dignity and independence.
Outstanding features of the project include its highly adaptable residential planning, ability to accommodate changing care needs, support for couples requiring different levels of assistance, and seamless integration of luxury, wellness, and operational performance. The completed community demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate quality of life while creating an environment that is welcoming, supportive, and truly aspirational for residents and their families.
