In a region increasingly recognized for its commitment to longevity and wellness, this project introduced a first-of-its-kind facility to Southwest Florida: a modern bathhouse dedicated to contrast therapy. Transforming a white-shell commercial space into a serene, high-performance wellness destination required innovation, precision, and a deep understanding of both construction and community health trends. The facility pairs hot saunas and cold plunges previously unfamiliar to the region, and does so with architectural elegance, technical precision, and a strong focus on user experience.
Project Highlights:
Architectural Design & Space Planning:
• The layout balances communal and private experiences, offering both large, shared saunas and intimate, reservable spaces.
• Biophilic design elements, including live plants and natural textures, enhance the sensory environment and promote mental wellness.
• The design fosters digital disconnection, encouraging guests to reset and reconnect with themselves and others.
Quality in Construction:
• Complex mechanical integration included HVAC systems tailored for high humidity and temperature fluctuations.
• Custom solutions for cold plunge tubs addressed drainage, moisture control, and long-term durability.
• Electrical systems were carefully coordinated to support heaters, pumps, and owner-supplied equipment, ensuring seamless operation.
Curb Appeal & Landscape Design:
• The exterior aligns with Bonita Springs’ vision for a transformative district, blending modern wellness aesthetics with local architectural cues.
• Landscaping complements the calming interior, creating a seamless transition into a restorative environment.
Unique Constraints & Solutions:
• Adapting a North Carolina-based franchise model to Florida’s climate, building codes, and regulatory environment required extensive collaboration and creative problem-solving. The team visited existing facilities, then translated those insights into a design that met Florida Building Code and local requirements.
• Located in a designated redevelopment district, the site posed added permitting and design challenges. With exterior modifications prohibited, the team focused on crafting a transformative interior that conveyed the brand’s wellness ethos from within.
• Thanks to proactive coordination and strong relationships with city officials, the team streamlined what could have been a lengthy permitting process keeping the project on track.
Target Market & Marketing Objectives:
• Designed for health-conscious individuals seeking passive wellness experiences, the facility offers Finnish saunas, infrared therapy, and cold pools.
• It appeals to both casual visitors and dedicated wellness practitioners, offering flexible access and a premium experience.
• Marketing efforts focused on establishing a flagship presence in Southwest Florida, achieved through thoughtful design and community integration.
• The project supports the region’s Blue Zone initiatives by promoting longevity, social connection, and holistic health.
Outstanding Features:
• First-of-its-kind contrast therapy facility in Southwest Florida, blending wellness innovation with architectural sophistication.
• Seamless collaboration between architects, engineers, franchise partners, and local stakeholders.
• A transformative, evidence-based design supporting circulation, immune function, stress reduction, and longevity.
• A community-centered space that fosters social wellness and aligns with global health trends.
• Sets a new benchmark for commercial wellness spaces in Florida.
