The Design Challenge: The original kitchen was a product of its era — enclosed, segmented and disconnected from the living spaces surrounding it. In a home where entertaining is a way of life, that simply wasn’t workable. The redesign demanded a complete architectural rethinking of the space, a full reconstruction to reposition it as the connected heart of the home.
Architectural Design & Floor Plan Function: The centerpiece of the redesign is a distinctive T-shaped island configuration, a deliberate departure from the conventional single-bar island format. The layout creates:
• Multiple counter seating positions that allow guests to gather naturally on two sides while the host cooks
• Unobstructed sightlines from the kitchen through the living areas and out to the lake beyond
• A continuous flow between cooking, dining and entertaining zones that makes the space feel expansive without sacrificing efficiency or practicality
Cabinetry, Countertops & Finishes: Every material selection was made with the same intention — warmth and luxury without heaviness or formality:
• Rich walnut cabinetry grounds the space with depth and character
• Dramatic quartz waterfall island provides contrast and a seamless, sculptural surface
• Reeded wood accents introduce subtle texture and tactile dimension
• Panel-ready refrigerator integrates invisibly into the cabinetry, maintaining the design’s clean, uninterrupted lines
