Project Overview
Some projects are designed for a market. This one was redesigned for a family. Purchased mid-construction by owners with a specific and personal vision, Casa Palma Azul was redirected around a single guiding intention: build a landscape where people want to gather. The courtyard became the destination, and every design decision from the street gate to the pool edge was made in service of that goal. In Pine Ridge, a neighborhood defined by mature canopy and quietly confident estates, the result needed to feel both bold and belonging.
Design and Execution
-The entry sequence was conceived as a full procession, beginning at a custom gate framed by stone-clad columns with integrated bronze-toned light panels and culminating at a covered front entry, with every element along the axis working to build anticipation
-A graphic striped paver driveway with turf-inlaid channels commands the motor court with an architectural confidence that is uncommon at the residential scale, functioning as a design feature in its own right rather than a transitional surface
-Mature date palms were positioned along the approach axis to create an immediate sense of permanence and scale, giving the property the weight of an established estate despite being a new build
-The rear living environment was organized around a resort-caliber pool terrace with a sunken fire lounge built flush to the deck, integrating seating, fire, and water into a single composed moment that serves the family’s gathering-centered program
Creative and Unusual Plant Material
-White bougainvillea masses were used as the primary groundcover along the courtyard perimeter, a choice that subverts the plant’s typical use as a climbing or accent specimen and instead deploys it as a continuous flowering carpet, delivering year-round bloom performance at a scale that makes a genuine visual impact
-Philodendron Burle Marx introduces a bold, tropical leaf texture to the planting beds that reads as lush and intentional, adding a layer of horticultural sophistication rarely seen in residential front landscape programs
-Saw palmetto was incorporated as both a design element and a nod to the native Pine Ridge landscape, grounding the composition in its natural surroundings while reinforcing the project’s environmental sensibility
Environmental Sensitivity and Sustainability
-Plant selections were calibrated to Pine Ridge’s sandy, well-drained soil conditions, favoring species with proven drought tolerance and low intervention requirements once established
-The turf-inlaid paver system reduces total impervious surface area across a substantial motor court footprint, managing stormwater more responsibly than a conventional full-paver approach
-The integration of Florida native saw palmetto into the ornamental planting program reflects a commitment to species that support local ecology without sacrificing design quality

Casa Palma Azul makes the case that a landscape born from a genuine client vision will always outperform one built for the market. The family’s decision to redirect the project mid-build produced a level of specificity and intentionality that spec-market timelines rarely allow.
