The renovation of a Hideaway Beach home in Marco Island was a celebration of literature, seamlessly blending architectural beauty with a love for books. The homeowner’s curated collection of first editions and literary masterpieces took center stage, elegantly displayed throughout the residence.

In the Great Room, the transformation began with the removal of a dated pre-cast concrete fireplace façade and the old-fashioned built-in. In its place, a stunning new fireplace surround was designed to complement an original artwork by Wesley Weber. Enhanced with mouldings, a classic mantle, architectural columns, and Evoa Quartzite surround, the refreshed fireplace became a striking focal point. To its right, custom floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcases adorned with intricate mouldings and medallions showcased a selection of the distinguished book collection.

Wide plank European White Oak flooring in Hemmingway Sand added warmth, laid in a herringbone pattern in the Great Room and Den, and transitioning to a straight lay in the Kitchen, Breakfast Nook, Dining Room, Powder Bath, and Bar for visual interest. All walls in the main living spaces were freshly painted in the soft neutral palette which allowed coastal hues in the textiles to shine. Throughout the home, all architectural columns were skim-coated for a smooth, updated finish. Custom area rugs and carefully arranged seating arrangements enhanced comfort, creating an inviting literary retreat.

Ceiling treatments were tailored to each space—a coffered library ceiling in the Great Room, Nickel Gap detailing in the Kitchen and Breakfast Nook, and a refined cove treatment in the Master Bedroom. Redesigned niches in the Dining Room, inspired by the Oval Office, and stairway niches integrated more of the book collection, reinforcing the home’s literary theme.

The Kitchen’s cabinetry was refinished in crisp Beach White, paired with Taj Mahal quartzite countertops that elegantly cascaded into the backsplash. A custom hood was created to bridge the upper cabinets, adding refinement and continuity to the space.

Beyond books, the Den embraced creativity, featuring Thibaut wallpaper as an inviting backdrop for keyboard and guitar jam sessions. A custom desk in Livable Green concealed the keyboard and amplifier when not in use, combining practicality with style.

The elevated Powder Bath features a polished nickel washbasin, white angular sink that is complemented by shaded wall sconces framing a scalloped mirror. Schumacher wallpaper in azure blue botanicals with a white background completes the refined look.

The book collection extended into the Master Suite, where a neoclassical fireplace façade and redesigned bookcases provided open and closed storage. A cozy reading nook to the left of the fireplace offered the perfect spot for literary escape. The bedroom, adorned with Schumacher wallpaper and handsome new furnishings, exuded refined elegance. To define the suite, custom arched doors separate the bedroom from the remodeled Master Bath. The bath was rejuvenated with freshly painted cabinetry, quartzite countertops, upgraded plumbing, Calcutta-like tile in the shower, and framed mirrors that set the stage for the freestanding tub—positioned in the bay windows overlooking Big Marco Pass, a breathtaking setting to unwind and escape into a story.
