Collins DuPont Design Group – Tailored Transition

As part of a transformative two-year renovation encompassing 9,167 square feet, the homeowners envisioned a statement space that would elevate both everyday living and entertainment. Centrally positioned between the great room and kitchen, the former dining room occupied one of the most visible locations in the home. Rather than preserving an outdated formal function, the design team reimagined the space as a dramatic wine lounge, capable of storing up to 750 bottles while providing an elegant setting for tastings, cocktail preparation and intimate gatherings.
Given its prominence upon entering the home, every design decision was carefully considered to cultivate a memorable first impression. The challenge was to balance the client’s desire for a sophisticated wine experience with the warmth and comfort necessary for a welcoming gathering space. The result is an immersive environment where architecture, materials and craftsmanship work together to create a destination within the home.
Serving as the foundation of the design is a completely bespoke flooring installation featuring Foglie D’Oro’s Azalea pattern. Selected for its ability to blend artistry with architectural precision, the pattern introduces a softer interpretation of traditional parquet through organic geometry inspired by the symmetry of a blooming flower. The custom application transforms the floor from a functional surface into a work of art, immediately establishing the room’s unique identity.
Deep-toned wood modules are meticulously arranged alongside precision-cut marble inserts and handcrafted brass inlays, creating a rich composition of texture, contrast and movement. The marble introduces luminosity and visual depth, while the brass detailing captures and reflects light, accentuating the intricate geometry and elevating the floor’s sculptural quality. Every element was fabricated and installed with extraordinary precision, demonstrating the exceptional craftsmanship required to execute such a complex design.
Beyond its visual impact, the flooring serves a critical design role by balancing the masculine character often associated with wine cellars and lounges. The flowing geometry softens the strength of the dark wood tones while introducing elegance, warmth and approachability. This thoughtful juxtaposition creates a space that feels both dramatic and inviting.
The completed wine lounge successfully transforms a once-traditional dining room into a luxurious entertaining destination. Through innovative material selection, custom detailing and masterful craftsmanship, the space delivers a powerful visual statement while perfectly supporting the homeowners’ lifestyle, creating a one-of-a-kind experience that is as functional as it is unforgettable.
