This staircase is truly a work of art. The floating appearance offers and airy weightlessness that this open space deserves. The stair treads and risers are white oak, and have been finished to match the wood floor throughout the home. The stair tread and riser detail has been carried to the edge of the stairs for a contemporary and clean look. The stair railing is a simple combination of glass panels and a white oak railing. The glass panels continue to give this massive staircase the open feel that we were going for. The underside of the floating staircase did not go untouched. We opted to panel the bottom in wood painted to match the trim. This offers a smooth and contemporary finish to the stairs. Situated behind the staircase, is a floor to ceiling window that extends clear up to the second floor of the home. This window, and its expansive height, add to the desired airy feel that we were going for in this staircase. The interior of this window was painted black to complement the black metal and glass front door that leads you into the home. The adjacent walls have been fully paneled in a contemporary layout that additionally accents the height of the space. The panels have a narrow stile, and a simple double step detail. A grand piano sits in the open space of the staircase on the ground floor. The perfect spot for acoustics. On the second floor an oversized chandelier hangs from the ceiling to give ambient light to this stairwell. The chandelier has a brass frame, and tiers of handwoven coco beads in an off-white coloring. The glass panel and wood railing continue along the open hallway that leads to the second floor bedrooms, and lounge area. This stairwell is such a focal point of the home, so we wanted to keep the details unique, but timeless nonetheless.
