After the devastating loss of their home from Hurricane Ian, our clients committed to rebuilding with a specific budget and the goal to prevent any future flooding and loss. To achieve a light, bright, and open cottage feel with under 1500 sq ft to work with, a conservative budget, and a narrow lot size and setbacks, we partnered closely with a local architect to create this dream beach cottage. We raised the living level elevation and incorporated the latest in hurricane-proof materials and FEMA regulations. This home boasts 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an elevator, 2 spacious balconies, and a charming open kitchen/living room concept. Strategically placed windows and sliders allow for a plethora of light in this adorable beach cottage. This light blue stucco and siding-clad home, typical of Florida’s colorful home exteriors, also has a shaded pool, grill, and bar area on ground level with driveway parking.

Each interior material selection was made to maximize the cottage’s character and accentuate the beachy Florida lifestyle. To achieve the light and bright aesthetic in the main area, the kitchen perimeter cabinetry was finished in a neutral white, while the island was finished in a light gray-blue. White countertops with subtle veining pull the warmth from the soft wood-look tile floors. A vintage-inspired subway tile was used on the kitchen backsplash, and two rope pendants over the island bring more natural texture into this charming kitchen.

Each bathroom was adorned with specialty tile to create visual interest, a ‘luxe’ feel, and invoke natural coastal elements. The primary bath features a beautiful mosaic floral-patterned wall in the shower, with the taupe and blue colors pulled throughout the bath and into the cabinetry, cabinet pulls, and floor tile. The guest bath features a fun ocean-blue stacked subway tile against brushed gold fixtures. A muted taupe vanity adds warmth, while the white coral-like mirror is a whimsical nod to the coastal feel of this cottage.
