The 1-story, 9,144 SF animal hospital is a ground-up masonry building with a flat structural steel roof, stucco and stone finishes and LEED components. In the event of a hurricane, the animal hospital has a back-up generator and can be utilized for shelter for over 100 animals. The hospital features a full surgical suite, treatment rooms for animals and reptiles, hospitalization holding areas, indoor/outdoor quarantine area, diagnostic lab, necropsy examination room, and a pharmacy. There is also a commissary which includes a huge walk-in cooler/freezer, conference room and administrative offices. The hospital fully addresses the Zoo’s veterinary needs and provides space to potentially care for injured or abandoned Florida panthers in collaboration with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
