If the kitchen is the heart of the home, this chef-grade beauty is a cardiologist’s dream. Altogether with its adjoining caterer’s kitchen, it encompasses a whopping 416-square feet, making it a stunning visual element of its open-concept residence. Because of the homeowner’s wish to remain traditional, and yet be different from other kitchens they had seen in Naples, they wanted to keep things elegant and simple. First thing you notice is the massive 11-foot by 8-foot, two-sink island. It is covered in Cristallo quartzite (with extra satin finish) with a 9-inch overhang (with all mitered corners), that allows the modern feel of a waterfall edge, while maintaining the traditional looks of the space. It was initially designed to be a two-island kitchen (plumbed and electrified for two), when the owner decided to change the setup, going from two islands to one and changing the orientation of the space. In addition to having ample seating, it is filled with storage areas. Brass feet tie into the brass hardware (Armac Martin throughout) and the brass on the 60-inch Lacanche range. In fact, ultra-long lead times had to be anticipated in order to secure the materials. The Lacanche range took 11 months to get on site. The scalloped edge backsplash (also in Cristallo quartzite) quietly rules over a nickel gap wall and a custom 72-inch by 53-inch Venetian plaster hood. A true show kitchen, everything is about the aesthetics. Outlets were faux finished with round cover plates so they blend in perfectly—even on the slab of the backsplash. Wolf standard and speed ovens are mounted adjacently. Paying homage to the homeowner’s Virginia roots, the freezer-fridge was custom-crafted to look like a piece of furniture—an armoire. Even the vents were hand-crafted. The space is all about clean lines. And speaking of cleanliness, a full-service work kitchen sits behind the main kitchen. The caterer’s kitchen features custom cabinetry right up to the 12-foot ceiling, but includes a moveable library ladder in order to gain access to even the highest cabinets. The space features all the expected appliances (ice maker, dishwasher, wine fridge), and all the cabinetry throughout features extra thick fronts and walnut inserts. All told, this is a kitchen designed to make your heart skip a beat.
