The clients wanted their new Florida retreat to speak to its coastal location, reflecting their sophisticated tastes, love of color and jewel-inspired lighting with an emphasis on art, ambiance and entertaining. Logistics posed a challenge: They were in England and would rely on the designer to complete the whole-home renovation, realize their vision and guide them through furniture and finish selections in the beachfront condominium they’d purchased sight unseen – a long-distance relationship necessitated by the pandemic.

The project involved removing walls to create flowing connections between previously confined rooms, an openness the designer enhanced with gray-brown wood plank floors and a continuous coastal palette of soft blue, blue-gray and white with accents of denim, navy blue and sapphire. The wood floor is installed in a herringbone pattern in the foyer which opens to the elegant living and dining rooms. Lighted niches, curated contemporary artwork, clear glass and cascading crushed crystal chandeliers in sculptural backlit ceilings embellish the space. Custom fabrics, shagreen finishes and wallcoverings add texture with 3D motifs, woven surfaces and shining silvers.

Eliminating a small island and peninsula completely transforms the kitchen, where painted pale blue-gray perimeter cabinetry is paired with white countertops. The oversized island’s white finish is contrasted by the navy blue of a built-in beverage center bar with a marbled backsplash and countertop.

In the master bedroom, custom wallpapers feature raised white petals fluttering down the walls and cross-sectioned Capiz shell reflecting light cast by the frosted beveled glass chandelier with gold leaf accents in the dropped ceiling. Combining the suite’s walk-in closets creates a larger wardrobe room – another client must-have. The closed-in shower was converted into a lighted niche next to a freestanding asymmetric tub selected for its drama. Sparkling chandeliers suspended from new cove-lit ceilings and sconces above the waterfall vanities replace ceiling fans and lighting panels. The redesigned space also accommodates a built-in vanity and a light-filled shower with glass barn doors.

Each guestroom offers a tailored look, access to a screened terrace and renovated private full bathrooms with painted cabinetry and custom finishes. The additional bedroom, a guest cottage, was carved out of the den.
