This prototype high school in Collier County is designed to be a state-of-the-art educational facility with the flexibility to quickly adopt ever-changing technology and learning methodologies. The 61-acre site supports a three-story, 246,431-square-foot high school and site buildings designed to serve 2,000 students and features five career academies: engineering, health science, law studies, information technology, and entrepreneurship and finance. Along with the career academies, classrooms, and labs, the facility features a secured entry for welcoming students, parents, and guests; administrative offices/conference rooms; a central core collaborative dining and gathering space; gymnasiums; and auditorium/performing arts hall. Accompanying academics, the site includes athletic fields/facilities including soccer fields, tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, and football/track and field and stadium.
The school is designed to be net-zero-ready as district funding becomes available to install renewable energy sources. The mechanical systems feature a 1,062,000-gallon Chilled Water Thermal Energy Tank with 9,300 ton-hours of usable cooling capacity. The estimated incentive payment for the TES system is $785,000, with a payback period of 5-7 years.
The project includes tilt wall construction with load-bearing interior CMU and steel framing. The classroom wings are 3 story structures with composite beam floor systems. The Media Center and Auditorium are two-story structures with composite beam systems. The two gyms and auditorium are tilt wall bearing and shear walls with deep long-span joists to span the open structure at the roof. A pedestrian bridge connects the Media Center to the Classroom wings. The general roof system of the school consists of steel joists and a metal roof deck. A two-story height space at the center corridor is spanned at the roof by deep, wide flange beams and a long-span roof deck. The Dugouts and Concessions buildings are CMU-bearing walls with steel roof joists and metal deck at the Concessions and a prefabricated roof at the Dugouts.
