Metis Design – Rolfes Pergola

Located in a luxury RV resort, the pergola on this project brings together the best parts of both indoor and outdoor living. The automated adjustable roof and features make this healthy space useful to provide privacy and protection from the elements as well as a lovely space for a neighborhood party. The aluminum framed, Florida Hurricane Rated pergola consists of three customized modules creating 500 square feet of living space. This pergola has ample room for not only a built-in outdoor kitchen but also for dining, lounging and enjoying any number of hobbies. Each of the many components that went into this high-tech pergola was selected with the owner’s considerations in mind, ultimately creating a unique, luxurious and extremely functional hangout space within the inherently close quarters of the RV resort. The pergola features two walls with four independently controllable retractable screens, two walls with stackable sliding panels and adjustable louvers. The screens provide privacy and restrict view of the nearby RV. The pergola features internal drainage and porcelain flooring which extends into adjacent parts of the lot, surrounded by lush landscape and an area with more outdoor seating around an ethanol fire pit which can also be moved into the pergola for use. In addition to being able to control which parts of the pergola are shaded or sunny, the two heaters, two overhead fans, and integrated up-lighting give even more control over the temperature and lighting throughout the space. This outdoor living area is simple and efficient compared to other building options. Compared to other projects in the resort, the clients loved that this structure could be permitted and built on the same level as the rest of the site, no need to be raised above flood levels. The ecological and economic benefits also outweigh other walled structures, remaining cool with natural breezes and shade rather cooled by A/C. All in all, this thoughtfully crafted pergola combines elegance and technology into a truly striking outdoor living space.
