Expanded outdoor living was high on the owners’ wish list for their new custom home. Frequent entertainers, they wanted more open-air and underroof alfresco destinations with a contemporary aesthetic reflecting the architecture and interior design.

A large homesite nestled along a nature preserve provided opportunities for outdoor areas spanning the width of the home and a flowing design enhancing the interplay of inside and out. Weiland LiftSlide doors between the great room and a spacious lanai eliminate a floor track, creating a seamless transition elevated by continuing the 70-by-30-inch natural stone flooring outside.

Dropped tongue-and-groove ceilings adorn the lanai’s kitchen, dining area and large living room. The kitchen’s custom bar, built-in cabinetry and Dekton countertops that are seamlessly clad and feature a warm dark gray marbled finish and integrate appliances, a stainless-steel grill and a recess for a pizza oven. The grill hood is embellished with a dramatic metal grid pattern and TV.

Enhanced seating is provided by six stools at the three-sided bar, a slate-gray dining table, and in the living room which offers two rattan armchairs and two modern sofas with sleek curvilinear profiles, their cream upholstery contrasted with dark tables. The living room has a TV, textured limestone walls and an ethereal long-exposure triptych photographed by Hilda Champion, a friend and well-known photographer. Tongue-and-groove extends from the ceiling, framing the upper portions of perimeter walls and wide openings looking out to the pool, open-air gathering destinations and the preserve.

The sundeck’s pearl stone tile defines open-air lounge areas while creating dramatic contemporary edges around integrated planters and the infinity-edge pool where mirroring bump outs create a sun ledge and a reflecting pool for a floating raised spa clad in shimmering gray and white glass mosaic with a 360-degree spillover. The pool extends to steppingstones across a shallow reflecting pool under a cantilevered roof, adjacent to an outdoor shower with a vine-laced wall and an open-slated awning.

Vibrant bougainvillea trees frame a large lawn with a putting green. Steps lead to a fire table on a sunken patio, where steppingstones intermingle with grass en route to a meandering crushed stone path and a secluded sitting area.
