Private Residence

The clients wanted the renovation of their 10th-floor condominium to speak to their love of elevated coastal contemporary design with colors echoing the stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico, furnishings boasting modern shapes, and updated finishes like Dekton, Silestone and porcelain requiring minimal upkeep for their seasonal lifestyle. They also desired a wine room and a home office seamlessly integrated into the new layout.

The project targeted 80% of the residence, reconfiguring spatial design for optimal openness, carving out space in the oversized master bedroom for a cleverly hidden office with a custom floating desk and Gulf views, and reimagining the former butler’s pantry as a sleek contemporary wine room/wet bar. It also incorporated imaginative design solutions – narrow cove-lit channels in the ceiling and reglet inserts in the wall of the grand salon – to prevent monotony by providing visual pauses to expansive surfaces. Heavy Old World stone flooring was replaced in main living areas with random-length European oak flooring featuring time-worn gray undertones and in the master bathroom by 12-by-48-inch pearl gray porcelain tile.

Colors and finish selections reflect the clients’ preferences for calming serene hues and interesting textures. A soft neutral palette provides the backdrop for accent colors, including shades of blue, gray and soft metallics, stunning blue Roma quartzite with shimmering cooper veining in the wine room and kitchen, and honey-gold, striated Swiss almond and rich Brazilian walnut wood tones. Texture is derived by gray grasscloth accenting the foyer’s wall, plush upholstery throughout, marbleized finishes, dimensional pearlized tile in the master bathroom, the innovative movement of new ceilings and walls, and the live-edge base of the salon’s glass-topped coffee table. In keeping with the desired contemporary aesthetic, chandeliers, pendants and window treatments are refrained to not detract from the views. Recessed ceiling lights illuminate formerly dark interior spaces while cove lighting in dropped and tray ceilings in select rooms cast ethereal glows.

Art and accessories are minimalized, letting panoramic vistas take center stage. The connection between indoor and outdoor spaces is enhanced by wood plank tile matching interior floors. Barn doors with glass inlays add a touch of the unexpected.
