A dramatic renovation transformed the master suite of this 10th-floor condominium into a modern masterpiece, replete with a contemporary bedroom showcasing stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico, a luxurious open bathroom and a surprise – a unique home office cleverly hidden within. The bedroom is absent of artwork and cluttering accessories, letting a palette of water and sky take center stage, while a dropped ceiling with cove lighting creates an ethereal, serene ambiance. Furnishings and bedding nod to the sea with shades of white, navy blue and gray, plus textures and rippled patterns inspired by the nuances of water. Random-length wire-brushed European oak flooring features time-worn gray undertones.

The generous size of the suite provided an innovative solution for a new home office, a client must-have. Bump-outs and niches along the bed wall provide the only telltale signs of the hidden space, which features a custom floating desk, wood flooring and Gulf views.

Removing walls confining a built-in tub and shower caters to a modern open plan in the bathroom, where heavy stone flooring with black mosaic inlays was replaced with 12-by-48-inch pearl gray porcelain tile. A pearlized, textural version of the tile is used as the floor-to-ceiling vanity backsplash and on the walls of the relocated walk-in steam shower, larger and all-glass for enhanced openness. The lighter hues are contrasted by the rich Brazilian walnut finish of wall-mounted vanities topped with sloping sinks integrated into black Dekton countertops, a finish explicitly selected with the clients’ desire for surfaces with interesting textures and minimal upkeep in mind. Two 4-foot-wide lighted Robern mirrors above provide additional storage and innovative charging stations.

The design team matched the vanity’s grain and stain for the planked platform below the two-person oval tub – the room’s focal point featuring a sculptural pleated white exterior. The wood look also reappears in the stylish towel bar and the floating bench and shelf in the shower.

The coastal contemporary aesthetic of the master bedroom and the spa-like feel of the bathroom reflect the clients’ lifestyle and personal tastes while accommodating space for a new home office.
