The Immokalee Fire Control District Public Safety Complex at Ave Maria is made up of several components including Fire Station #32, Emergency Medical Services and Sheriff’s offices as well as a separate logistics building. Located at 5368/5362 Useppa Drive. This project has been in the works for a little over a decade with a great deal of community involvement as well as anticipation by both the citizens and Fire District officials.
The primary design and mission goals of the project were to provide the community with a multi-functional, state-of-the-art public safety facility capable of ensuring emergency responses are safely executed with a reduced response time when seconds make all the difference.
The Public Safety Building is comprised of an Administration section occupying two floors and the Fire Station / Operations section also occupying two floors totaling 8,200sqft. These areas are separated by an open ceiling Apparatus Bay totaling 4,590sqft.
As you enter the Administration side your attention is grabbed by a custom staircase that has an unmistakable firefighter theme. Directly across from the stairs is the Training room that serves as the public meeting space for the Fire District Board of Commissioners. The First floor also houses the Sheriff’s Offices and an Office for Each Commissioner.
On the second floor you will find a sound suppressed and remarkably efficient emergency operations center equipped with the latest technologies. This room is adjoined to an upgraded glass wall conference room with a one-piece custom engraved wooden table running the entire length of the room.
The first floor of the Fire Station wing is comprised of a kitchen, dayroom, fully equipped exercise room, watch office, decontamination room, gear storage, and maintenance/repair rooms. The second floor includes personnel bunk rooms for firefighters and EMS, restrooms, and a laundry room. A mezzanine for storage and mechanical equipment is accessible from both the sleeping wing and the bays.
The logistics building is a stand-alone high bay maintenance facility with 3 bays and approx. 952 sqft mezzanine. This building supports the entire district with dry climate controlled secure medical stock, parts, bunker gear, gear cleaning extractor, workshop, compressor room, mechanical and electrical rooms, as well as an area for vehicle and equipment maintenance, an automated backup generator system, complete with 5,000 gallons of stored fuel to support emergency response operations.
This three-acre site has innovative access controls for all points of entry, both vehicular as well as pedestrians, and a 24 hour a day monitoring system providing an added layer of safety for the occupants and visitors of the facilities. A section of the hardscape has been dedicated as a memorial for those lost but not forgotten, a fireman with an operational hose flowing into a retention pool, custom brick pavers, and a well-lit stone monument pedestal beneath the American flag as the foundation for a helmet and bronze boot statue.
Giving back to our public safety service sector is one of our proudest achievements, we build them, in turn they shape us.
