Private Residence

In the absence of buildable homesites in the homeowner’s preferred community, the clients re-imagined and updated an existing private residence.

The original home had heavy Tuscan design features with a dark closed-in layout, original Turkish travertine marble flooring, carpeted bedrooms, and decorative Venetian plaster arches throughout the interior. The newly updated design features a Mediterranean-modern design style nodding to its original traditional Tuscan design.

The home was originally built in 2003 and had a great foundation with a newly replaced driveway and tile roof. The interior designer incorporated a neutral black-and-white color palette, complementing the warmer tones in the existing roof and driveway.

The decorative columns and Venetian-style plaster arches were replaced inside the home with clean geometric lines and modern ceiling details. The cold travertine marble flooring was replaced with warm, European white oak wide plank flooring. The enlarged custom kitchen includes a full-height porcelain slab backsplash with stunning natural walnut, white and black cabinetry. The heavy traditional brass plumbing and lighting fixtures were updated to sleek matte black and chrome fixtures throughout the home.

The new floor plan transitioned the original family room to a custom wet bar with a wall-mounted flatscreen TV and floating shelves. Next to the bar is a glass-enclosed wine room boasting rich walnut cabinetry and a stainless-steel wine rack system. The formal dining room is now a comfortable study/flex space incorporating a large wall-to-wall white oak and black LED-lit built-in with casual furniture to fit the family’s active, pet-friendly lifestyle.

To accommodate the owner’s request for a more extensive master suite with workout space, the team redesigned the entire original study and powder room areas. Square footage from the original study was incorporated into the master bathroom, with the powder bath redesigned to accommodate the new modern layout. The new master bathroom features a Euro shower, natural stone cladding, floating his and her vanities, with matching linen towers in crisp, clean white cabinetry.

To complete the entire home transformation, the outdoor living area includes a redesigned outdoor kitchen, peninsula bar, new custom pool with negative edge, spa, and fire pit. This home showcases the perfect blend of traditional Tuscan architecture with new modern design elements resulting in a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere.
