This custom four-bedroom, seven-bathroom contemporary home transports any visitor from the bustling streets of Naples, Florida, to a tropical oasis sprawling on nine- acres of beautiful vegetation. The client and design team collaborated to design a family compound that would focus on its luxury pool and courtyard which includes a beautifully designed entertaining area with outdoor kitchen, fireplace and fire pit.

The home has an enormous amount of natural light with expansive glass panels along the front elevation and mirroring glass panels along the rear elevation. Guests enter the home from an all-glass, pivoting entry door and walk into an open-style great room and dining area with cathedral ceilings, wood beams, and panoramic natural light. Situated in the left wing of the home is the office, master suite and a powder bathroom.

The element of this home that we want to highlight as the specialty feature is a glass wall separating the powder bathroom from the outdoor living space. This window wall is installed with “Switch Glass”. There was some debate on whether or not to add this upgrade to the home’s unique qualities, but the clients ultimately decided to include switch glass in this bathroom to keep with the home’s theme of floor to ceiling windows.

Upon walking into the room, natural sunlight pours into the floor-to-ceiling windows before quickly turning into an opaque, frosted window with a click of a button. This LCG smart glass uses polymer-dispersed liquid crystal for its magical effect that allows any room to utilize sunlight to the best of its ability without compromising on quality. The switch glass complements the bathroom’s contemporary feel with its frosted glass divider and deep metallic wallpaper adorned on each wall.

Because the space isn’t used that often by the homeowners, the benefit is when they walk down the hallway past this room, they have spectacular views to the outdoor area’s pool, pergola and lush landscaping. In addition, the use of the switch glass allows the rear elevationto not be compromised with a small window or a less interesting way to keep the room private. This is in keeping with the key consideration of utilizing the abundance of natural sunlight while providing the client with maximum privacy within the property.
