This home was renovated for a family moving to Naples for the first time. They purchased the home in early 2020 but because the wife/client is an interior designer from Boston, she knew that the renovation she wanted to do needed an architect to help reinvent the spaces. She wanted to take the formal layout of the home to a modern and open style.
The client engaged an architect, they designed the home for a great room plan and engaged us to perform the work. We also worked with a local cabinet designer to create the beautiful kitchen, new master bathroom cabinetry and the other guest bathrooms.
(Although the Master Suite, Outdoor Living Area and Front Entry were reconfigured and rebuilt, we are excluding them from this competition and focusing only on the new Great Room design.)
In the existing home, when you walked in the front door there was an entrance to the study on the right and the dining room on the left. We redesigned the space with a herringbone wood flooring design using European oak in the foyer and then closed off the Dining Room and created a new bedroom in this space. Your eye is drawn right across the Great Room out to the pool with floor-to-ceiling windows.
New European, white oak wood flooring was installed throughout the home’s main living spaces and new ceiling details, cabinetry and trim was incorporated throughout these spaces as well. The beautiful blue cabinetry in the kitchen, hallway and great room adds a richness to the home as well as a nice warm accent color.
The home consisted of 4,368 square feet under air and construction took about 8 months, of which COVID-19 was causing labor shortages and material delays. The subcontractors were very difficult to manage and were not reliable throughout the project. Many times, they were scheduled to come out but never arrived or had a skeleton crew which created issues for the schedule. We were able to get the project completed in a reasonable time frame considering these challenges and, overall, the clients are extremely happy with their home.
