This homes original kitchen was “gracious-traditional” and very dated. The Crema Marfil flooring, warm cherry cabinets, and Onyx countertops reflected a different design than the Clients wanted their new home/ Kitchen to have. The floorplan needed to be completely reworked, and the selections needed to be updated to create an aesthetically pleasing residence for the new homeowners to enjoy and entertain!
The only way to access the Kitchen, was to walk around the central walls which supported the second floor of the home (and also contained the Pantry and a desk area) and were an obstruction to the flow. The main support for the entire upstairs of the home was a steel column, located inside the central walls. The Designer’s creative solution was to remove all the walls and camouflage the support by incorporating it into the Wine Room design & clad it in brushed stainless (the glass door is anchored on it)!
The original main living area was sunken, and the kitchen and kitchen dining area were raised three steps higher than the main living area. By raising the level of the main living area floor, the Kitchen and Kitchen Dining area became flush (the same level as the main living area). By removing the curved wrought-iron railing that surrounded the Kitchen Dining Area & bumping out the curved windows to create a squared-off wall- more space was added to create the Bar. It features LED underlit floating shelves with decorative sconces above. It was fun to create this area to facilitate the clients entertaining. An architectural door affords access to the herb garden.
Reworking the large soffit (which was part of the upstairs bedroom), made it possible to raise the Kitchen ceiling to be more open and have cleaner lines.
The redesigned kitchen and cabinet layout was reworked. An 11”8” waterfall edge central island clad in Greylac Pompey Quartz is the focal point and gathering space for the family. The contemporary drop-ceiling features LED backlighting and four custom Hubardton Forge pendant lights in Burnished Steel.
Custom Miralis High Gloss cabinets, are a unique juxtaposition to the Matte-finish cabinets and wood grained veneer cabinets. The unique aesthetic of finishes compliment the Family Room and Dining Room, while adding a memorable backdrop to the main living area!
