REMODELINGSpace Renovation
Builder/Remodeler

This kitchen remodel was not only a beautiful transformation visually but increased the functionality and overall flow in the space. The original kitchen felt tight and off-center. The original pantry was large but not functional, and the bi-level island and its orientation was a nuisance for the client. By removing the pantry and pushing out the left wall, we created ample space for storage as well as increased the functionality of the kitchen. We re-oriented the island to create a functional cooking and prep space as well as a space for guests to gather.
The soaring ceilings presented a challenge in the kitchen: we did not want ‘dust traps’ on top of the cabinets and wanted the island space to feel intimate when company gathered. In order to soften the vastness of the ceilings, we framed the cabinetry into the walls to create a seamless, built-in look with no ‘floating’ upper cabinets. A “floating cloud” was built above the island to bring the light source closer to island as well as add texture and warmth.
The chosen materials represent a contemporary take on ‘calming coastal’. The all-white perimeter cabinets are offset by a mid-tone island. The perimeter light-grey quartz countertops compliment the more bold-veined island quartz. Hints of warmth in the wood-trimmed details such as the hood surround and cloud bring contrast to various planes within the space. And of course, a touch of traditional coastal with the shiplap trim on the ‘cloud’. The backsplash selection brought in a hint of the client’s favorite color – blue. Using a Lunada Bay herringbone tile, we once again introduced depth and texture into the kitchen backsplash.
This gorgeous kitchen exceeded expectations in design and functionality!
